I'm posting here the midterm exam from fall 2008 and solutions. There were two parts to this exam. The first part was closed book and the time limit was 40 minutes. The second part was open book with time limit the remainder of the class. This will be more valuable to you if you attempt the exam without looking at the solutions, and use the solutions only as you really need them.

Exact details of your first midterm will be given in class on Wednesday, Oct 7.

Note that problem 3 on part II is a question requiring conditional probability (Ch 3 of the text) which hasn't been covered in class as of Oct 2, 2009.
