Degree requirements

A minimum of 45 quarter hours of MATH courses at the 1000 level or higher, including:

MATH 1951,2,3 or
MATH 1961,2,3 (Calculus or Honors Calculus series)
MATH 2060 (Elements of Linear Algebra)
MATH 2070 (Introduction to Differential Equations)
MATH 2080 (Calculus of Several Variables)

At least five MATH courses at the 3000 level including:

An approved course in analysis (e.g., MATH 3161 or MATH 3851)
An approved course in algebra (e.g., MATH 3151 or MATH 3170)

Two courses from one of the five areas listed below:

Analysis (MATH 3161,2, MATH 3851,2)
Algebra (MATH 3151,2, MATH 3170 or MATH 3706,7)
Probability and Statistics (MATH 3080, MATH 3090, MATH 3180)
Applied Mathematics (MATH 3651,2, MATH 3070, or MATH 3311,2)
Computer Mathematics (MATH 3221,2, MATH 3571,2 or MATH 3706,7)

Notes:

MATH 3706 does not satisfy the algebra requirement. However, the combination of MATH 3706 and MATH 3707 satisfies the two course sequence requirement.
There are other possibilities for satisfying the two course sequence requirement. Consult a MATH advisor about these possibilities.
MATH 1750 cannot be used for major credit.

A Student who intends to obtain a BS in Mathematics must satisfy all the requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree as outlined in the University of Denver Undergraduate Bulletin.

Foundations: The following foundation requirements may be taken in any order, except that the foreign language requirement (FOLA) is a one year sequence in a foreign language, and these sequences begin in the fall.

AHUM – 8 credits
SOCS – 8 credits
FOLA – 12 credits (or demonstration of equivalent proficiency)
CREX – 4 credits

Minors: Minor 1 and Minor 2 stand for minors which typically require 5 courses each. BS requires two minors.

Electives: You must complete electives so that you reach the required total number of credits (183 credits) and satisfy the upper division requirement (at least 75 credits must be taken at the 2000 level or above.)

Core: Three CORE classes are required, one each from the three themes:

Communities and environments
Self and identities
Change and continuity

Two of these three required CORE classes may be satisfied in the quarter abroad. One of the CORE classes must be designated as writing intensive.

Study abroad: Students studying abroad can get elective credits for courses taken abroad. Satisfaction of all other university requirements needs prior approval (viz form). Students may take a maximum of 1 course total from AHUM, SOCS, or CREX, and a maximum of 2 CORE classes while abroad. The writing intensive CORE class cannot be taken abroad.
